Introduction
Potomac Electric after-market service division specializes in remanufacturing servo motors, linear motors, drive electronics, slip rings, CNC machine spindles, and other electromechanical components used in Motion Control. Remanufacturing is a service we provide to our customers that goes far beyond a simple repair.
When products come in for service our technicians evaluate and test the unit according to OEM specification. Customers are notified about the status and price prior to service.

Disassembly
The first step is to evaluate the product against original manufacturers specification. The cause of failure for the device is determined.
Then we begin by completely disassembling, cleaning and inspecting all the components. Our experienced staff of technicians and engineers can handle almost any size motor in dire need of repair.
Almost all motors have various feedback devices such as resolvers, encoders, inductosyn, tach generators, and so on. Even the most complex equipment is no challenge for Potomac Electric’s experienced technicians. We have built many fixtures and toolings to test that equipment.

Evaluation
Following a thorough evaluation by our specially trained technicians, all damaged or worn parts are replaced. The turn around time is short and we keep our customers up to date. Being a small business we understand how important your machine down time is.
Damaged shafts, keyways, bearing bores, worn out commutator, and so on are machined in our CNC shop to meet the standards of the Original Equipment Manufacturer. Damaged electrical parts such as brush holders, burned armatures or stators, demagnetized or broken magnets, brakes, encoders, resolvers are replaced with new parts.

Machine New Parts
After new parts have been machined and replaced the motor then goes to rewinding and testing. New cables can also be made and assembled with the unit if required.
Thorough testing is done to ensure the customer will receive the highest quality from their remanufactured motor.

Repair and Assembly
Here is a good example of complex machine work done on our CNC machine to refurbish a disk armature.
Tested
Following final assembly the unit undergoes a battery of tests. Upon completion the motor is then sent to "burn-in" for a 4-8 hour period under power.
A final inspection is then performed to ensure all the components operate in accordance with specification. A final test certificate is always sent to the customer with the product.

Paint
All parts serviced by Potomac Electric are finished with a fresh coat of paint.
This quality coating gives the remanufactured unit an "off the shelf" look. The only difference between a motor from the OEM and a remanufactured motor from Potomac Electric is the price.
Of course there are times that units are destroyed, and buying a new product is the only option. In this case we work with our manufacturing division to see if we can quickly and economically supply customers with a replacement.
We also try to purchase and maintain a large Parts Inventory
Packaged to be Shipped
With new parts and a fresh coat of paint this motor is ready to go back to work. Our 15 years of experience show that customers appreciate our fast turn around time.
Maintenance of equipment is expensive. Lots of machines become obsolete quickly. Thus Potomac Electric provides a valuable service to the US Industry.
