invested in designing a new line of DC servo motors to support the
industry need. Potomac Electrics excellent technical support and

from their old servomotor to a new replacement servomotor made in the
USA by Potomac Electric.
Among the servo motors you may find on your Bridgeport CNC machine you will see names such as SEM, CMC Torque Systems, Powertron, Contravez and a few others. Potomac Electric manufactures replacements for all of the brands.
In the 1990s the majority
of machine manufacturers shifted from brushed servo motors to brushless
type servo motors, as cost of the technology had come down. The higher
speeds and absence of brush maintenance in the brushless type servo
motors offered favorable advantages. As DC brush type servo motors
became less attractive machine builders slowly phased out this
technology. As a result the price and delivery of the servo motors
increased dramatically. Potomac Electric set a goal to support the
machine tool industry maintenance costs low with a high quality
products at low cost.
